The European Ploughing Championships are being held in Ballinaboola this weekend bringing hundreds, if not thousands, of people to the area in a major boost for the Co Wexford economy.
The competition takes place in Springpark, Ballinaboola, on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 next year, but ploughmen and women from across the continent arrived on Monday ahead of the big competition.
33 competitors from throughout Europe will be competing for major honours in a number of categories.
Most competitors and their teams are staying in the Ferrycarrig Hotel where entertainment is being laid on for them.
World reversible ploughing champion John Whelan from Ballycullane is one of three Wexford men who have the honour of representing Ireland at the competition.
Former multiple world champion Martin Kehoe from Ballycullane and Dan Donnelly from Kilmuckridge are also competing.
The site has been prepared over the past week and is ready for the competition and the organisers are praying for good weather in what will be a showcase event for the National Ploughing Association, whose top brass will be in attendance.
